Thursday, March 10, 2011 - Session Twenty-Three

Had a pretty great class tonight. A few people did not show up tonight - which is always a bummer - but one of the father of one of the two quiet girls joined the class today, so that was fun. He is a huge man! I would not want to be on the receiving end of his taiatari. No keiko tonight but Sensei had Amaury and I practice fumikomi men over and over again. We really made some strides (pun!) in our technique tonight, and it was good to Sensei say so! We also discussed the Dallas shinsa a bit and Sensei recommended that we wait until the fall shinsa. He thinks we would make something like rokukyu or gokyu right now, but he also thinks that we will be able to make sankyu in six months time. Sensei figures it will save us some time down the road if we wait and start at sankyu rather than grading now and working up from even lower on the pole. He knows what he is talking about so I am going to go with his wisdom on that. But we are still competing at the taikai though! It is going to be so much fun! Looking forward to it!

  1. When is the taikai again? You'll definitely have to take pictures and let us all know how it went! I love reading about other people's taikai experiences :D. We just had one this past weekend and there is another one next month that I plan on going to.
